The tea is traditionally used to help combat diseases of upper respiratory tract and improve conditions of bronchi-alveolar passages. Soothing, cough relieving and expectorant action is achieved through the combination of multiple herbs with different active ingredients. The tea can be taken regularly for long periods of time without either losing its effect or causing harm. As a preventative treatment during the cold time and to promote healthy bronchial passages make a tea with 1 - 2 tea spoons per cup, take 1-2 cups a day. To help combat cough, cold, bronchitis brew a tea using one table spoon per cup, take 3 - 4 cups a day. Named after Jean Jacques Rousseau, an18th century philosopher and writer, who was dedicated admirer of Periwinkle, one of tea ingredients. Apparently, due to the numerous references to Periwinkle in Rousseau's books, long time bestsellers in Europe, it became widely spread and popular garden plant all over the continent. However the use of Periwinkle in herbal medicines goes well below Rousseau times, and even below the dawn of European civilization. The tea is traditionally utilized to promote healthy cerebral circulation, to help improve the tonus of blood vessels and reduce blood pressure. In old folk medicine texts it was recommended as a remedy against the deterioration of olfactory perception, - in modern medicine a symptom suggesting possible problems with cerebral circulation. Herbal tea traditionally used to combat sleeplessness. Somnius make sleep to come easy and improves the quality of sleep throughout the night. Depending of dose the tea has calming, sedative and sleep inducing action. In case of severe insomnia combine the tea with bath Tranquillity or Elegia, the tincture of Valerian.
Do not drink Somnius before driving. After consuming high doses of Somnius some people may experience next morning headaches, apparently related to the hypotensive action of tea - a cup of coffee will be a good remedy. The tea may cause strong sedative effect in sensitive individuals and may notably potentiate the action of sedative drugs. Due to its vasodilatatory action, Somnius is especially helpful for individuals with high blood pressure. At the same time Somnius may cause general weakness and transient headaches in persons with hypotension (low blood pressure). To be on the safe side, start using the tea with 1 teaspoon per cup and take 1/2 cup at a time. Adjust the dose according to organism response.
